Zitat:
1. This is not a game. It`s a technology demo. Nothing more.
2. It`s obvious that no time was taken to craft any sort of gameplay
into DS... meaningless and repetitive spells, amazingly shoddy
implementation of stats for items, etc...
3. Absolutely no thinking required. No planning. No strategy of any
kind. No puzzles. No riddles. No clues. No fun.
4. While not exactly a huge fan of hack-and-slash gameplay, I now
marvel at the depth and complexity of Diablo 2. I used to think D2
was nothing more than busywork for the idle mind... now I see my error
in judgment revealed.
5. DS is pretty yes, but it`s not that pretty, and the limited field
of view (don`t you miss the sky too?) is only one of the limitations
that gradually annoy over time. Have you seen the screenshots for
Morrowind? NWN? They`re less than a month away, and they`re going to
make DS look ridiculous in every discernable way.
6. It`s not a game.
7. Credit the marketing power of Microsoft, lining the pockets of the
greedy weasels that serve to mislead the consumer. Have you no shame?
Do any of you remember when a gaming experience inspired your
intellectual curiosity? How do I get through that mysterious door? I
wonder what effect this potion has? What did that old crone in the
dilapidated shack really mean? Does anything in DS even remotely
resemble these distant memories? No.
8. I understand the modern gamer has the attention span of a
fruitfly, I really do. I understand that DS is designed for a certain
demographic that prefers audio/visual sensory candy over things like
story, real (not just leveling) character development, and questions
that need answers. But couldn`t you have at least tried? Just a
little bit? For your own sense of pride, if nothing else?
9. Has there ever been a game that marketed itself as an RPG that was
this linear? Ahhh, screw it. I could go on and on and on... the
whole thing`s a joke, it really is.
10. Dungeon Siege is not a game.
You want to design the perfect role-playing game? It`s easy. Just do
this:
a. Take the feeling of immensity from Daggerfall.
b. Populate with the detail and interactivity of Ultima 7.
c. For combat, exactly copy the phased/turnbased system from Wiz8.
d. For interaction with the citizens of your world, exactly copy the
hypertext/parser system from Wiz8.
e. Hire the people that wrote the dialogue and plot from Planescape.
f. Seriously, doesn`t that sound good? Can it be that hard??
It wouldn`t necessarily make the twitchy people happy, but it would go
down in history as one helluva game.
Have a great day. If you have a brain, avoid Dungeon Siege. Pretty
colors do not a compelling game make.
